Parts of east Melbourne are sacred to St Mary of the Cross, who established schools for the poor.
This saint proves that the harshness of Australian life can lead to extraordinary goodness from Australian women.

Above, Susan reflects on the importance of enjoying life inspired by a painting at Saint Vincent’s public hospital by an artist who’s signature looks like this:

Today is the feast day of St Eligius, an extraordinarily honest man and goldsmith, who was the patron saint of farmers and horses, both of which have been important parts of Susan’s life.

St Eligius with a younger bloke in a painting circa 1759 by Gaetano Gandolfi.

Pol the Painter did a quick pocket book sketch of Susan and later turned it into an insightful and powerful portrait of this Wise Mother and her Gorgi-Kelpie Cross. This is a Cross which Sue can and does live on.
A much better way to worship, IMHO, than the crosses of death.
The Heart Of Faith is primarily in life and only after that does it pass to death.
